Grant Program Update  

1. Hall of Fame adopts two Army Units in November, 2011

A sum of $3,000 has been allocated for the Grant Committee to purchase blankets, pillows, video games, cases of canned food (that cook easily), snack items (e.g.: beef jerky, gum, cookie, granola bars, etc) for two army companies currently serving in Afghanistan.  Captain Roy Ragusa (MHS 2003) and Captain Mike Hanna Jr. (MHS 2003) played football, lacrosse, etc. at MHS, than attended West Point and are currently commanding combat units in Afghanistan.

In November, our Director’s committee spent a Sunday afternoon packaging Boxes for  Afghanistan.

2. Hall of Fame Selection Committee Interim Report:

Chairperson Rich Strothman reports that the selection committee has completed its fall assignment. Fifteen Alumni and Five Community Staff candidates have been recommended for the 2012 Ballot. Candidate information will be provided to some forty active and retired Directors by mid December. Directors will convene for their annual organization meetings scheduled for January 3, 2012. Ballots will be tallied and the top eight alumni candidates and 3 Community Staff Honorees will be selected for induction at the August 6, 2012 Golf Outing / Induction Dinner. The outing will be held at the Town of Oyster Bay Golf Course in Woodbury.

To: Inducted Hall of Fame Member’s Karen Laukhardt, Al Wilkening, Richard Kelly, Tom O’Malley and Nick Lopardo for their generous November contribution to the Hall of Fame 2011 Grant project. Additional contributions are anticipated before the close of the year.

To: The Massapequa Chapter of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO) for continuing our efforts to support our troops. The local service organization was founded in the 60′s. PEO President Carol Hartzell (a member and past Director of the Hall) and Carol Pluschau (Past Treasurer of PEO) spearheaded the effort. Some forty current member of PEO contributed close to one thousand dollars for December Care packages to Afghanistan troops.
